Showing a board on a TV
A TV shows a board through a TV link: a URL that opens the kiosk page full screen on any TV browser, stick PC or signage player, without a Flex login. Each link is a revocable display key.
Create a TV link
- In Flex, open the board and choose TV links.
- Enter a label for the screen (for example the room it hangs in).
- Pick the boards it shows: one board, or several for a rotation, with seconds per board (10–600, default 30).
- Create the link. The full link is shown once, with a QR code: scan it with a phone, or type it into the TV browser.
The link looks like https://<your-floor-walker-host>/wallboard/#key=<display-key>. The kiosk_url feature setting can point TV links at another address (see Data sources and setup).
Manage links
The TV links list shows every link whose playlist contains the board, with its label, the start of its key and when the screen last polled.
- Change the playlist or rotation. The link stays the same, so the TV does not need to be touched.
- Revoke. The screen switches to a "link revoked" message on its next poll.
- Deleting a board removes it from every playlist. A link whose playlist becomes empty stops working.
What the kiosk does
- Keeps the screen awake (where the browser supports it) and hides the mouse cursor after 3 seconds without movement.
- Polls every 5 seconds for new numbers, with ETags, so an unchanged board costs almost nothing.
- Reloads the board layout when someone edits and saves it.
- Survives reboots. The key is read once from the URL fragment, kept in the browser's local storage and removed from the address bar.
- Shows stale data honestly. If updates stop, the board keeps the last numbers and marks them stale with their age.
- Rotates through the playlist with a thin progress bar along the bottom.
- Leaves a safe margin around the board for TVs that crop the picture edges (overscan).
Kiosk URL options
| Option | Effect |
|---|---|
?lang=en or ?lang=he | Overrides the board's TV language. |
?theme=light, dark or contrast | Overrides the board's theme. |
?overscan=0 | Removes the safe margin, for screens that show the full picture. |
?demo=1 | Shows the default board on simulated data, with no key and no server data. Add &template=queues, agents, leadership or outbound for a template, or &rotate=1 to cycle through all of them. |
Put options before the #key= fragment, for example https://<your-floor-walker-host>/wallboard/?theme=dark#key=<display-key>.
Security
- The key travels in the URL fragment, which browsers do not send to servers or write to access logs.
- Floor Walker stores only a hash of each key, never the key itself.
- A key gives read-only access to the boards in its playlist and nothing else. Asking for a board outside the playlist is refused.
- Treat a TV link like a password for that screen: revoke it if it leaks, and create a new one.
Text size and layout on the TV
Everything scales with the tile, so a 4K screen matches a 1080p one. For a screen read from a few metres away, aim for 6 to 10 tiles per board; for more, use several boards in rotation.
